Our report card
It earns its awards. Lots of parents report real extra sleep, and expert testers rank it at or near the top of the bassinets they've tried. It's important to note that roughly one in five babies never take to it, you get about six months of use, and key features cost extra on used units.
This review brings together 37 sources: expert reviews, awards, and what lots of parents say. The main ones are linked below.

Pros: what parents love
- Lots of parents say they sleep more. Many credit it with an extra hour or two a night. One forum parent said that after a rocky couple of weeks it "proved itself worth its weight in sleep," and another who skipped it for baby one wished they hadn't.
- It answers crying before you're up. It hears fussing and steps up the rocking and white noise on its own. A Fathercraft tester's partner watched it settle the baby at level two before she'd fully woken, and The Bump praised its cry detection.
- The clip-in sack keeps baby on their back. The sack clips to the sides so the baby can't roll and stays centered away from the mesh. The FDA authorized it for that, though it says the SNOO hasn't been shown to reduce SIDS.
- Down drowsy, without five transfers. A labor and delivery nurse says that within a few weeks she could put her son down drowsy but awake more than 95% of the time.
- Easy to rent, borrow or resell. Parents borrow from friends, rent, buy certified used, and sell theirs once the baby outgrows it.
Cons: what parents don't
- About one in five babies never take to it. That's the maker's own figure. Some families saw it work for one child and not the next, and one parent's baby went straight to a crib at 5 months and did fine.
- Key features now sit behind a paid app tier. Since July 2024, Weaning Mode, Level Lock and Car Ride Mode are Premium, and secondhand or borrowed owners pay monthly. New units include 9 months. The bed still rocks without the app, it's just capped.
- Six months of use, then a rough crib move. Babies move out around 6 months, and owners say the switch can turn into a sleep-regression stretch. That short window is part of why value was MadeForMums' lowest sub-score.
- XS and XL sacks were recalled. The unauthorized XS and XL sacks could fit too loosely or too tightly, and the August 2026 recall says stop using and discard them. The bassinet and S, M and L sacks aren't covered, and no injuries were reported.
- It's big, corded and noisy by design. It's bigger than a standard bassinet, about 38 lbs with no wheels, and needs an outlet nearby. The white noise soothes some adults in the room and drives others up the wall.
The companion app
Happiest Baby, makers of SNOO
by The Happiest Baby, Inc.
- Sleep tracking parents actually use. A labor and delivery nurse called the sleep-tracking app possibly her favorite part, and a preemie family wished they'd known sooner how useful it was in their first nights home.
- The basics stay free. Start, stop, level changes, volume, alerts, a hand-filled tracker for sleep, feeds and diapers, and account sharing all work on the free version.
- The bassinet works without it. The company says SNOO's safety and soothing features run with no Wi-Fi or app at all, though the motion limiter can only be changed in the app.
- Features moved behind a subscription. The July 2024 Premium paywall angered secondhand owners and parents reusing a SNOO for a second baby; Weaning Mode and auto sleep logging now cost extra.
- Some parents skip it entirely. One forum parent found the app "just ok" and usually just pushed the button on the bassinet instead.

Who it's for
Families expecting a new baby and are concerned about the lack of sleep. This may be your first or you may have another toddler that isn't sleeping through the night yet.
How we reviewed
We rated the SNOO on four things. First, how much extra sleep parents report. Second, how many babies actually settle in it. Third, how long you can use it and how hard the crib move is. Fourth, the strings attached: the app subscription, refurbished-unit hygiene and the 2026 FDA actions. We drew on expert reviews and tester families, award results, FDA and CPSC records, and parent forums and comments.
If you bring one home, check any hand-me-down sacks against the XS/XL recall and look over a refurbished unit before the first night. Remember that HappiestBaby.com rents these units, giving parents a monthly payment option.
The Tadpole Take
4.5/ 5
Anything that promotes better sleep for both parents and baby is worth the price tag! I love that these units have a solid resale value and you have the ability to rent if the $2,000 price tag is a hard pill to swallow.
