If you travel at all, you need to consider the SlumberPod which slips right over a pack-n-play to create a dark sleep headquarters for your little one! For me it wasn’t one of those products you think about when building your registry or prepping for your first night away as a new family. For me and my family, the SlumberPod was recommended by a close friend, and now we don’t travel without it.
The two biggest advantages of this pop-up tent cover for your Pack ‘n Play or crib are that it creates a dark sleep space for daytime naps when you don’t have blackout curtains, and for evenings when you’re sharing a hotel room with your little one and want to watch some TV.
While I rave about this product, I also pulled together what expert testers, award judges, and plenty of parents have to say. That way, you can decide whether the SlumberPod is something your family could benefit from!

Our report card
SlumberPod 3.0 does its main job well. Parents and reviewers keep saying it gets dark enough for kids to sleep like they do at home, and it goes up in minutes. The catch is heat, so plan on the separately sold fan, and the price plus a thin pool of independent ratings make it a purchase for families who travel or room-share often.
This review brings together 17 sources: expert reviews, awards, and what lots of parents say. The main ones are linked below.
What reviewers say

Pros: what parents love
- It gets properly dark. Parents and reviewers consistently say it blocks light well enough for naps in bright rooms and on beach trips. One family said their daughter slept as well as she does at home.
- Room-sharing gets easier. The kid inside can't see you, so you can keep a lamp on or stay in the room. One family uses it to fit three girls under 4 into one bedroom.
- Setup takes minutes. Two poles slide through loops and it stands like a tent. A self-described tent-pitching failure had it up in under five minutes, and parents report handling it alone.
- It packs carry-on small. It weighs about 5 pounds and packs to roughly 17 by 5 by 6 inches, small enough to go in a carry-on.
Cons: what parents don't
- It runs warm, and the fan is extra. Heat is the most repeated complaint, with the separate fan called 'very much necessary' in warm rooms. The maker safety-tested with vents closed and no fan, and experts still caution about overheating for young infants.
- It's pricey before you add the fan. Even reviewers who like it call it expensive, and the fan is a separate purchase or combo. Easier to justify for frequent travelers than for one trip a year.
Safety & recalls

Who it's for
Families traveling with a toddler who will be sleeping in a room where artificial or natural light might make it hard to fall asleep. Because the SlumberPod can run warm, make sure the room has AC on hot summer days.
How we reviewed
We rated SlumberPod 3.0 on four things: how dark it really gets, heat and airflow (including whether you need the fan), setup and pack-down effort, and how well it fits a hotel room or shared bedroom. We looked at TTPM's editor review, Consumer Reports' safety explainer, lifestyle and parent reviews, retailer ratings, and the maker's own specs and safety guidance.
If darkness is the missing piece on your next trip, the SlumberPod is a solid pick as long as you budget for the fan and keep the inside bare. Pack the rest of home too: the same book, the same song, and a couple of bedtime questions that get real answers. For more ideas, browse our bedtime and reading guides before you zip the suitcase.
